The spine card image for Blackhole Assault was kindly supplied by Matthew Maddox | ||
One-on-one fighting with mechanoids - good
idea, terrible execution. Sluggish action combined with
limited (punch, kick, throw) and unresponsive controls makes the
game almost unplayable. The sprites themselves are well
animated but the backdrops are bland and uninspired - given that
these are far off planets and asteroids the artists could really have
let themselves go. Storyline, tournament, exhibition and
2-player modes add some variety, but the underlying game is so bad
it can't hold player interest for very long. Blackhole Assault only carries its bar code on the spine card, not on the rear inlay. This must have caused chaos in the stores that put out "dead" stock - serves them right for throwing all the spine cards away. |
