Snatcher

"Nightmare in the year 2047"

"The year is 2047.  Neo Kobe City, a place of madness and decadence...  A mysterious Bio-roid life form has appeared!   Its true nature and purpose are unknown.  Is it some country's secret weapon, or an alien from another world?  They kill their victims and take their place, and thus have become known as "Snatchers".  A new police force, JUNKERS, specifically trained to combat Snatchers has been formed...  The war between Snatcher and Junker has begun!"

This Hideo Kojima title - which could explain why your robot sidekick is called "Metal Gear" - is widely considered to be one of the best titles for the Mega-CD, and fetches some of the higher prices on eBay despite not being especially rare.  The Justifier light gun from Lethal Enforcers can be plugged into the 2P port and used in the shooting sections instead of the joypad.  The game is excellent, with good voice acting and animation.  Having to search and examine everything to find the single clue that will let the storyline progress can be a bit of a chore, but here are several "Easter eggs" to provide a sideline should the main investigation hit a temporary dead end.  Replay value is doubtful, but on the first time through the story is gripping and you'll be hard pushed not to be glued to this game until the final screen.  The ELSPA rating of 18 is perhaps a little harsh - though the more risqué bits from the Japanese original can be unlocked.
